i haven't been doing lots of papercrafting recently. partly because i'm still more in the yarn department of my inspiration and partly because the craft room/office is a huge mess (which i should really push myself to do something about).
then my brother asked me to make a sort of mail box for guests at his wedding to put the cards (and money donations) in. i made the box to match the purpose of the money - perhaps you can guess it:
i use this sun image a lot. on cards, journals, books, backgrounds. i just love it - i think it's beautiful. and as you can see i only used half of it on the box. i cut the other half out of the paper with a craft knife, creating a silhouette. i ink sprayed that piece with blues and some cardstock with yellow and oranges to form the card base.
i used a sheet music stamp on the card base for a bit of texture (and because my brother is a great musician). i thought about decorating it further but decided not to. i think the colours and the sun image speak for themselves.
and then last week i made three cards for T's kindergarten teachers.
i made acetate card bases and big flowers out of various pattern papers. i borrowed this idea from here. and the tutorial (skip right ahead to about 1:40 into the video) for the flowers is one that i've watched a long time ago. i still make them pretty much the same way but i've fine-tuned my technique since then. (these flowers are so much nicer than the first ones i made.)
to hide the glue i used three 1inch circles per card: one on the inside of the card front right behind the flower and the other two on the inside and outside of the back of the card. the circles all line up and no glue is visible. (i used glossy accents to glue everything.)
i've stamped a simple "thanks" on the inside circle, the back is mainly to hide the glue on the thanks-circle and i've written the date on it.
i think these cards make quite a statement...
