do you remember Herb?
i made him back in october and he has been holding on to our shopping-list pen ever since.
now i've spent the last two or three days making a friend for Herb.
meet Flora:
Flora is a bit of a diva and she's an insect spirit. she loves my hydrangea bush as much as i do.
(i'm so proud of this plant - it was only about a third of its current size when i planted it last autumn. it was its first winter outside, and a rough one at that. it reaches up to my knee and has 17 flower umbels!)
i made Flora with a little skein of handspun merino that i had left over on one of the two bobbins i'd used to create a 2-ply. i plied the left over with a synthetic metallic thread - which didn't go all that well because that thread has a bit of a memory-effect and it didn't like being plied. it knitted up nicely though.
i love her hands and feet! (just like i love Herb's as well...)
Flora is not going to live on the fridge (as i didn't have any magnets). i don't know exactly where she's going to stay yet, but R keeps sneaking her off to play and cuddle with her so i assume she's going to live in the kids' room for a while.
i guess i should have placed the second pair of arms a tiny bit further below the upper pair to allow them to hang a little "drapier" but when i thought about that, it was too late to change it... it's perfectly fine though. flora's unique and really rather special to me.
lots of love and i hope you have a great time, whereever you are in the world! xxx
