this is a selection of the cards i made with the strips of cash register paper i printed on with my gelli plate. i have two or three of each flower but i made sure that all the cards ended up different when i assembled them. i used both sets of the Tim Holtz "Wildflowers" dies to cut the flowers from black 150gsm paper. i added double sided tape to the paper before cutting the flowers to make adhering them easier. they are very thin and flimsy and i didn't want to have any glue oozing out the sides.
i could have tried to place the dies on the paper as economically as possible for as little waste as possible, but why do that when you can make two cards for the effort of one (or just a little bit more than the effort of one) and end up with no waste at all?
since i was cutting out the flowers anyway i thought that i might be able to get a 2-for-1 deal out of the whole thing and use the negatives for a different card design.
the square cards have 'torn notebook' details made with a Tim Holtz "on the edge" die. the flower shaped window is backed with a torn page from an old encyclopedia.
the other design is very simple. the black panel and the book paper piece are the same size and i adhered them at an angle before centering them as best as i could on the card base. i thought about adding something more to these but i couldn't really think of anything i liked. i tried a few things like ribbons tied around the bottom edge or little gems scattered across but couldn't make up my mind. i actually like their simplicity and flatness. it's a sort of nod to actual pressed and dried flowers, which were the design inspiration for the dies.
these are slider cards. i've made some christmas themed ones already and they were quite popular. the shaped panels to the left and right of the card base pull out to reveal space for the message and they fit into a standard size business envelope. i coloured old book paper with distress and dylusions inks, stamped the flowers around the edges and coloured them tone-on-tone with inks and markers.
except for the "love you" all the sentiments on the cards (even though i hardly ever put sentiments on the fronts of the cards i make) are in german. they say "i like you", "love you" in german, "best wishes", "lots of kisses" and "thanks". they could be for a birthday, mother's day (which is in may in austria), a birthday, a thank you note or just because. they are bright, happy and colourful and i like them a lot.
then i made these birthday cards. doesn't look like much, right...?
but when you open it...
ta-dah!!!
...you get a long row of candles.
there are 30 candles on this card and i made some with 16, 18, 20, 25 and 35 as well.
sending lots of love to you all and i hope you have something to enjoy in your life! xxx
