you might know that i love to make scrap yarn socks, scrappy socks, frankensocks, happy socks, monster socks, left over socks, magic socks, "restesocken" or whatever else they might be called. personally, i like to call them "scrahappy" socks which is a fusion of scrappy socks and happy socks and what i've called the blog category as well.
i've just looked back and noticed that i wrote the first post about scrahappy socks two years and one month ago, almost exactly to the day. you can find it here if you like to read it (again).
since then i've made 14 pairs of scrahappy socks, 28 completely unique and individual ones (and i'm not even ashamed to admit that 20 of those are still with me - i have a hard time giving them away, you know).
i love my yarn basket. it's always the same but the offer constantly varies. and then i have a beautifully carved wooden bowl where i keep the smaller left overs - anything that's not bigger than a large walnut - because they tend to get lost in the basket.
this may sound pathetic, but using up one of the left overs or another is always bitter-sweet. self patterning sock yarns are released in collections and once they've sold out they're gone and it usually takes a lot of searching to find the last scattered balls of that specific colourway you liked so much, if at all... i seem to be sentimental when it comes to yarn.
oh, how i love seeing them all in one place like that!
i only made four pairs that i didn't keep myself: one for my son, one for my daughter, one for my mum and one that my mum ordered as a gift for a friend of hers. i totally tried to make some for other people too, i really did! but i always loved them so much that i just couldn't give them away... sounds like a really lame excuse but i've said it before: i'm selfish when it comes to my knitting.
although my husband really needs his own pair now and since i have to cast on more stitches for his socks there's no danger of my keeping them - haha!
making scrahappy socks is an absolute joy and really quite addictive... and for me, each and every one of the socks is full of memories of all the other socks i've knitted for friends and family and myself, of course.
lots of love! xxx
