this is where i left off with my sock yarn blanket in my last blanket post. this picture was taken exactly one year ago today! i only just noticed when i uploaded it again...
i forgot to take pictures of the square blanket after i had finished row twelve and because of my rather forced knitting break it took a while until i picked it up again.
here we have the last square of row fourteen almost done. completing row fourteen was a big milestone for me: since i had made the first two rows using the mini balls from the opal advent calendar 2016 i wanted to use the mini balls from the 2017 calendar for the last two rows - fifteen and sixteen. i had hoped to be able to knit the squares through advent of 2017, one every day as i opened each door - but that didn't happen and i saved them until i was able to knit again.
as was probably totally predictable: i did not stick with the whole idea i was going on about at the beginning of the blanket; that of using only yarns i'd already used to make socks with.
what i did stick with was not using any of the yarns more often than what i could get out of roughly one pattern repeat. yarns with a short pattern repeat i used only for one square (to avoid having two identical ones), those with long repeats (like many opal yarns) i used twice, one or two thrice and one even four times (that was one of the Hundertwasser colourways which have very long repeats).
and now, only four days after the above photo was taken, i can happily say: i've finished the last square! (yes, i did some crazy speed-knitting to get it finally done... and i can feel it in my hands now too...)
i think a black and white one was a rather nice way to finish it all off with - though the choice was made by whoever filled the calendar and not by myself. now i have to think about some sort of border or edging. maybe a faux-ribbing crochet border to keep the edges of the knitted squares from stretching out too much - they are rather stretchy...
i'm sooo looking forward to getting it all finished, washed and spread out on my bed!
i hope you are all enjoying your life and have lovely things to do and create...
lots of love! xxx
