This is my third mojo sock pattern. The classic full length mojo socks can be found here and the sneaker version here. This one is another variation, one to be better suited to fit children or adults with small feet. The socks above are roughly a EU size 36/37 and the proportions of the pattern look right to me.
Of course the classic mojo can be altered to be any length you want but if you don't want to fuss around adjusting it for a smaller size then this is helpful.
As with the other mojo sock versions this one is not for knitters who are allergic to purling or ribbing for longer stretches as there is quite a lot of both in this pattern.
Now on to the pattern:
- cast on the desired number of stitches - make sure it's a multiple of 4
- 15 rounds *knit 2 - purl 2*
- purl 5 rounds
knit 5 rounds
purl 5 rounds
knit 5 rounds
purl 5 rounds
= 5 striped ribs - 15 rounds *knit 2 - purl 2* - for the sneaker version of the junior mojo start here with 10 rounds instead
- purl 5 rounds - only on the top half of the sock - knit the back half (this is important for the fit of the sock)
knit 5 rounds
purl 2 rounds
work your favourite heel - take care to continue the striped rib-pattern on the top half of the sock:
If you are doing a short-row heel use the next 3 purl rounds to fit the heel in there before you move on to the next knit rib (which will be part of the foot already).
If you are doing a flap and heel turn, continue the pattern as described below on the top of the foot while you do the gusset decreases.
In both cases there should be a total of 5 striped ribs.
After the heel work the pattern only on the top half of the sock - the sole is in stockinette stitch.
purl 3 rounds - place short row heel here!
knit 5 rounds
purl 5 rounds
= 5 striped ribs - 15 rounds *knit 2 - purl 2*
- purl 5 rounds
knit 5 rounds
purl 5 rounds
knit 5 rounds
purl 5 rounds
= 5 striped ribs
Try or measure the sock somewhere before the striped ribs are done - take into account that the purl ribs can strech out quite a bit but don't overstrech them - use the sole of the sock for measuring rather than the top (and don't overstretch the sole either).
For the socks pictured above you can see that I did a few rounds (it was 5) of *k2-p2* after the last 5 purl rounds before starting the toe decreases.
When your sock is ready for the toe, either knit the toe in stockinette stitch or *k2-p2* between the decreases. As you have fewer and fewer stitches between the decreases you need to pay attention to the order of the knit and purl stitches.
The junior mojo can also be turned into a sneaker mojo, of course. For that you simply skip the first 15 rounds of ribbing and the first section of 5 striped ribs.
Then you work 10 rounds *knit 2 - purl 2* and continue with the pattern as above from there. I've marked the starting point for the junior sneaker mojo in the pattern in red. The rest is the same.
I hope this is helpful and if you have any questions (or spotted any errors I might have overlooked) feel free to leave me a comment or message me on facebook.
Lots of love! xxx
